Vol. 466 No. 4

Written Answers. - Primary Schools Staffing Schedule.

Seamus Brennan

Ceist:

192 Mr. S. Brennan asked the Minister for Education the reason there has been a further delay in the publishing of the staffing schedule for primary schools in the 1996-97 school year; whether discussions with the partners have taken place as promised by her in her reply to Parliamentary Question No. 179 of 2 April 1996; if her attention has been drawn to the difficulties this delay is having on the future job security of teachers affected and the orderly administration of schools; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [11645/96]

The staffing schedule for the 1996-97 school year has been published. The schedule was circulated to all principal teachers and boards of management over two weeks ago. This matter was discussed with representatives of management and teacher organisations at a meeting on 7 May 1996.

There is no threat to the job security of teachers whose posts will be suppressed at the end of the current school year because of declining enrolments. This is because permanent teachers holding posts which will be suppressed will be placed on panels for redeployment. Panels exist to ensure continued permanent employment of teachers who find themselves in this situation.
