In reply to a related question on 4 May 1995, Official Report, volume 452, Column 852, I referred to the discussion document dated 20 October 1994 promulgated by my Department regarding legislative proposals for the registration of title for architects.
These proposals have now been superseded by arrangements, currently being promoted by my colleague, the Minister for the Environment, to compile a list of persons seeking recognition and the right to practice for the purposes of an amendment to the Architects Directive, 1985 of the European Communities. This Directive was transposed into Irish law by means of Statutory Instrument No. 15 of 1989 and is entitled the European Communities (Establishment and Provision of Services in Architecture) Regulations, 1989. The Minister for the Environment was designated as the competent authority for the purposes of the Directive.
