Vol. 466 No. 4

Written Answers. - Sale of Crosshaven (Cork) Coastguard Houses.

Batt O'Keeffe

Ceist:

296 Mr. B. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Defence whether he intends to sell the Coastguard Station houses (details supplied) in County Cork to the occupiers. [11497/96]

The Officer of Public Works proposes to sell ten of the 12 houses at the Coastguard Station. Crosshaven. These include four houses which are administered by my Department and occupied as married quarters. The Department is in a position to offer these four houses for sale to the occupants under terms broadly in line with those of the 1995 Local Authority Tenant Purchase Scheme. Should these offers be accepted it is proposed, in the interest of expendiency, that the Office of Public Works will handle the sale of the entire property.

A portion of the site on which these houses stand will be required by Cork County Council for road widening purposes; the extent of the area required has not yet been determined by the council but it is proposed to proceed with the disposal of the houses subject to the final requirements of the council.
