Vol. 466 No. 4

Written Answers. - VRT Repayment Scheme.

James McDaid

Ceist:

46 Dr. McDaid asked the Minister for Finance the number of applicants who have been refused their vehicle registration tax £1,000 scrappage repayment scheme in view of the fact that they were within one month, two months, three months or six months of the ten years date through a genuine error. [10531/96]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that since the commencement of the scrappage scheme on 1 July 1995, 30 claims for repayments involving scrapped vehicles which were under ten years old were refused out of a total of 14,500 claims received, that is approximately 0.2 per cent of claims received. The details of the rejected claims are as follows:

Age of vehicle

No. of claims refused

1 month under 10 years old

1

2 months under 10 years old

4

3 months under 10 years old between 3 and 6 months under 10 years old

4 14

in excess of 6 months under 10 years old

7

30

Out of the 30 rejected claims, 17 have been appealed to date under the new independent excise appeals procedure which was introduced with effect from 1 January 1996 and of these seven were allowed on appeal.
