Vol. 466 No. 4

Written Answers. - Corporation Tax Rate.

Batt O'Keeffe

Ceist:

52 Mr. B. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Finance the plans, if any, he has to increase the 10 per cent corporation tax rate. [10064/96]

The 10 per cent rate of corporation tax for the manufacturing sector is guaranteed at least until the end of the year 2010, while the 10 per cent rate for companies operating from the International Financial Services Centre or from the Shannon Free Zone is guaranteed at least until the end of 2005. I have no intention of altering this position. The availability of the 10 per cent rate for manufacturing and internationally traded services has been a key factor in the attraction of inward investment and in the overall development of our economy.

The position in relation to corporation tax rates after the years 2005 and 2010 will be reviewed in due course by my Department in consultation with the Department of Enterprise and Employment and the industrial promotion agencies. A primary objective in this regard will be to maintain and promote Ireland as a competitive location for internationally mobile investment.
