Vol. 466 No. 4

Written Answers. - Proposed Children's Hospice.

Máire Geoghegan-Quinn

Ceist:

122 Mrs. Geoghegan-Quinn asked the Minister for Health whether he has received a report on the proposed National Children's Hospice; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11788/96]

Limerick East): I have not received the report referred to by the Deputy.

My Department's policy on the development of hospice services is as set out in the "Guidelines for the Development of a Palliative Care Service" which was produced in association with the Irish Association for Palliative Care. This report gives guidelines on the development of hospice services on a regional basis. It provides advice on setting up a new service or the expansion of an already existing service. The report also offers guidelines on education and training, essential aspects in the assessment and maintenance of high standards in palliative care.
