Vol. 466 No. 5

Written Answers. - National Lottery Funding.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

112 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Education the amount of national lottery funding that was allocated to her Department in 1995; and the amount allocated to each project on a county by county basis. [11791/96]

The amount of national lottery funding that was allocated to my Department in 1995 was £34.884 million. The actual expenditure was £33 million. The expenditure is distributed over the broad headings to which national lottery funds are allocated as follows:

(a) Irish Language

£2.0m

(b) Arts and Culture

£6.6m

(c) Youth and Sport

£24.4m

Total

£33.0m

I would refer the Deputy to my reply to Parliamentary Question No. 357 of 23 January 1996 which included a tabular statement of the organisations in each county which were allocated grants under the sports capital programme in 1995. Records are not maintained in such a way that would enable me to provide details of funding on a county by county basis for other categories given the nature of the funding arrangements. A large proportion of overall funding is allocated to national bodies, many of whom disburse the funding to individuals and projects throughout the State.
