Vol. 466 No. 5

Written Answers. - Blanchardstown (Dublin) Garda Station.

Liam Lawlor

Ceist:

51 Mr. Lawlor asked the Minister for Finance the progress, if any, made by the Office of Public Works on the new Garda station for Blanchardstown, Dublin 15; whether tenders will be sought immediately after the builders' holidays in August and if work will commence on the site before the end of 1996; if it is intended to construct a social welfare office on the site in view of the disquiet among the local population and the Garda who believe that the site is not adequate for more than one development; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11856/96]

I wish to advise Deputy Lawlor that the entire site in Blanchardstown has been assigned for the purpose of providing a Garda district headquarters.

Also I wish to advise that the current programme for the construction of the station indicates that tenders will be invited in mid-September and that work will commence on site before the end of the year.
