Vol. 466 No. 5

Written Answers. - Health Insurance.

Batt O'Keeffe

Ceist:

55 Mr. B. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Health the concerns, if any, he has regarding the cover extended and the cost of that cover in respect of MRI scans at Cork University Hospital in contrast to that of Dublin hospitals, particularly the Blackrock Clinic. [10065/96]

Limerick East): I assume that the Deputy is referring to private health insurance cover provided in respect of MRI scans by the Voluntary Health Insurance Board.

Negotiations between the VHI, or any health insurer, and health insurance providers concerning the nature of services and their cost are a matter for the parties concerned. Regarding the MRI cover position, I understand that the VHI has indicated that it would like to negotiate arrangements similar to those applying at Cork Regional Hospital in respect of MRI scanners elsewhere.
