Vol. 466 No. 5

Written Answers. - Hospital Appointments.

Ivor Callely

Ceist:

59 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Health the average waiting period for new appointments in neurology; if he will give a breakdown of the waiting period for the Master and Beaumont Hospitals, Dublin; his views on these waiting periods; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11735/96]

Limerick East): At present there are two consultant neurologists employed in Beaumont Hospital. The waiting time for a new appointment for one consultant is six months while the second consultant is not accepting new appointments at this time.

The Mater Hospital sees return patients for neurology, i.e. patients who have been seen in Beaumont Hospital previously. The waiting time for a return visit in the Mater Hospital at present is twelve weeks.

I am glad to inform the Deputy that I have approved a third consultant neurologist for Beaumont and James connolly Memorial Hospitals.
