Written Answers. - Air Support Unit.
The Government recently approved my proposal for the establishment of dedicated air support for the Garda Síochána. This will involve the purchase of specialised aircraft for the Air Corps which will provide the Garda Síochána with a 24 hour air support capability. The Air Corps already provide a significant level of air support to the Garda Síochána.
The work of a technical group established to draw up tender specifications is at an advanced stage and I expect that invitations to tender should issue shortly.
