Vol. 467 No. 2

Written Answers. - Extradition Warrants.

Desmond J. O'Malley

Ceist:

47 Mr. O'Malley asked the Minister for Justice whether warrants for the extradition of a person (details supplied) have been sent by the Irish authorities to the appropriate jurisdiction; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [12849/96]

It is not the practice for Ministers for Justice to disclose whether proceedings have been initiated for the extradition of a person from a foreign country, or to supply information in relation to possible pending extradition requests to other countries. Apart from other considerations, disclosure of information of this kind might hinder Garda action. I do not propose to depart from the established practice in this instance.
