140 Mr. Dempsey asked the Minister for the Environment the total amount of expenditure by local authorities in each of the years from 1990 to 1995 in each of the local authority programmes; and the total percentage of each of these amounts that was funded by the EU. [13384/96]

Outturn figures in respect of the years 1990-93 are contained in the returns of local taxation publications for the years 1990-93, copies of which are available in the Oireachtas Library. The outturn figures in respect of 1994 are set out in Table A. Outturn figures for 1995, in respect of both current and capital expenditure, are not yet available in my Department but estimates of current expenditure are contained in the 1995 Local Authority Estimates publication, which is also available in the Oireachtas Library.

As EU funding is channelled through a number of Departments and agencies, information on the overall proportion of local authority expenditure which is funded by the EU is not available in my Department. Details of grants paid directly to local authorities by my Department during the period from 1990 to 1995 in respect of EU co-financed projects are set out in Table B. This expenditure would normally be assisted by the EU at aid rates ranging between 50 per cent and 85 per cent.
