Vol. 467 No. 4

Written Answers. - National School Staffing.

Rory O'Hanlon

Ceist:

188 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Education if she will ensure that the number of teachers is not reduced in a school (details supplied) in County Monaghan; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [13466/96]

The staffing of a national school for a particular year is determined by the enrolment of the school on 30 September of the previous year. The existing staffing at the school referred to by the Deputy is a principal and seven assistants. Additionally, the school has the service of a shared remedial teacher.

The enrolment of the school on 30 September 1995 has declined to 215 pupils which warrants a staffing in the 1996-97 year of a principal and six assistant teachers. Accordingly, the seventh assistant's post at the school will be suppressed at the end of the current school year. The teacher in question has been placed on the relevant diocesan panel for redeployment which will not take place before 1 September 1996.
