Vol. 467 No. 4

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

John O'Leary

Ceist:

196 Mr. O'Leary asked the Minister for Education the reason for the delay in paying a grant of £24,000 to the board of management of Loughguitane national school, Muckross Post Office, Killarney, County Kerry; and when payment will be made in respect of an extension and renovation works carried out in 1995 to this school. [13520/96]

In June 1994 my Department sanctioned grant-aid towards the cost of improvement works at the school referred to by the Deputy and the local Office of Public Works was requested to assist the school in having the works executed. The Office of Public Works recently advised my Department that the works are now completed and have undertaken to furnish certification for the works shortly. On receipt of this certification my Department will make arrangements to have the appropriate grant-aid paid to the school authorities. It is not possible for me to state the exact date this payment will issue but I can assure the Deputy that every effort will be made to have the payment issued as soon as possible.

Liam Aylward

Ceist:

197 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Education if she will give details of the payment of a grant to a school (details supplied) in County Carlow; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [13525/96]

The school to which the Deputy refers is a new 12 classroom school completed in 1992 at a cost of £0.85 million. The project was designed and supervised by the manager's architect. There was a disagreement between my Department and the school authorities concerning the final account for this project and the matter remained unresolved. The case was re-examined in late 1995. Following this re-examination the Department agreed a final account figure with the school authorities. As a result, there was outstanding grant-aid due to the school in question. This has now been paid and I understand the matter is resolved satisfactorily.
