Vol. 467 No. 4

Written Answers. - Safety of Foreign Students.

Ivor Callely

Ceist:

220 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Justice if her attention has been drawn to the large number of foreign students that are due to visit Ireland in 1996 and the genuine concern that the current crime levels may have a serious effect on such visitors; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [13498/96]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that a range of measures are being implemented to address the safety of visiting foreign students. These measures include visits by gardaí to schools attended by the students and to centres of accommodation, the dissemination of crime prevention leaflets and the operation of campus watch schemes.
