Written Answers. - Appointments to State and Semi-State Boards.

Helen Keogh

Ceist:

228 Ms Keogh asked the Minister for Social Welfare the State and semi-State boards under the aegis of his Department; the appointments, if any, that have been made to these boards in the past year; the number of women who have been appointed by him; and the percentage of women currently on each of these boards. [13455/96]

The statutory agencies operating under the aegis of my Department are the Combat Poverty Agency, the Pensions Board and the National Social Service Board.

As regards the Combat Poverty Agency, I appointed Ms Deirdre Carroll as a member of the board in January 1995 and Ms Anna Lee as a member of the board and chairperson in June 1995. Eleven board members whose term of office has expired have not yet been replaced thus reducing the current board to five members, 80 per cent of whom are women.

In relation to the pensions board, the following persons were appointed by me on 21 December 1995, for a five year period, to replace the first board whose term of office ended on 20 December 1995:
Mr. Eamonn Heffernan (Chairperson)
Mr. Jim Kehoe
Ms Raymonde Kelly
Mr. Ciaran Long
Ms Anne Maher
Mr. Donal McAleese
Mr. Stephen McCarthy
Mr. Robert Woods
Ms Deirdre Carroll
Mr. Joe Mooney
Ms Kay Brophy
Ms Rosheen Callender
Ms Veronica McDermott
Of the 13 members appointed by me, six are women. The current percentage of women on the board is 46.2 per cent.
In the case of the National Social Service Board, Mr. Donal De Buitléir was appointed as a member of the board and chairperson in June 1995 and the following persons were appointed to the board for a three year period with effect from 1 September 1995:
Ms Paula Clancey
Mr. Mel Cousins
Ms Joan Duffy
Mr. Denis Foley
Ms Geralyn McGarry
Mr. Michael McLoone
Ms Rosarie Moylan
Mr. Tom Mulherin
Ms Mary Murphy
Mr. Martin Naughton
Ms Mary O'Connell
Mr. Padraig Rehill
Ms Monica Weir
Ms Kate Kelly
Of the 15 appointments made by me, eight are women. The percentage of women currently serving on the board is 53.3 per cent.
