Hugh Byrne

Ceist:

25 Mr. H. Byrne asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade the number of CERT trainees who were school leavers in each of the years from 1990 to 1995; and the number of these persons still employed in the tourism industry. [13377/96]

Hugh Byrne

Ceist:

53 Mr. H. Byrne asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade the number of employees in tourism released for training by CERT in each of the years from 1990 to 1995; and the number of these persons still employed in tourism related projects. [13376/96]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 25 and 53 together.

I propose to circulate a schedule in the Official Report which provides data on the number of school leavers, and employees in continuing training, with CERT for the years 1990 to 1995.

The most recent surveys carried out by CERT cover 1990 to 1994 and indicate that 81 per cent of school leavers who undertook CERT courses during the period are still employed in the tourist industry and another 5 per cent are in further tourism training.

Similar data on all full-time trainees, inclusive of those subsequently using continuing training programmes, show an estimated retention rate of some 76 per cent in the catering and hotel industry.
