Vol. 467 No. 4

Written Answers. - State Board Appointments.

Helen Keogh

Ceist:

70 Ms Keogh asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs the State and semi-State boards under the aegis of his Department; the appointments, if any, that have been made to these boards in the past year; the number of women who have been appointed by him; and the percentage of women currently on each of these boards. [13447/96]

There are four State boards which come under the aegis of the Department of Foreign Affairs. These are: Agency for Personal Services Overseas (APSO); Cultural Relations Committee (CRC); Irish Aid Advisory Committee (IAAC); Refugee Agency. Details of the persons appointed to these boards were given in my reply to Question No. 41 of 7 May 1996. There has been one change in those details — Mr. Colm Ó Maolain, Department of Education, appointed to the board of the Refugee Agency on 1 November 1995 has been replaced by Mr. Seán MacGabhann.

The gender breakdown of the appointments made by me in the last year is as follows:

Board

Number of appointments

Number of women appointed

APSC

4

2

CRC

18

8

IAAC

14

5

Refugee Agency

The number of women serving on these boards is as follows:

Total

APSO

11

46

CRC

45

IAAC

14

With regard to the Office of the Tánaiste, the only board which comes under its aegis is the National Economic and Social Forum. It was reconstituted on 23 June 1995 and details of the appointments were given in my reply to Question No. 112 of 20 February 1996. The Deputy may wish to note, however, that 25 or 51 per cent of the 49 appointments to the forum were women.
There are no semi-State boards which come under the aegis of the Department of Foreign Affairs or the Office of the Tánaiste.
