156 Miss Coughlan asked the Minister for Education if she will give a breakdown of the various categories of capitation grants payable to primary and post-primary schools in the past 15 years, together with a breakdown of the appropriate local contribution for each year. [14688/96]

The standard rates of capitation grants at primary level and the corresponding local contribution are set out in the following table A.

Supplementary capitation grants are paid in respect of pupils in all-Irish schools, and in schools which are designated as disadvantaged. In addition, special capitation rates apply in the case of pupils with handicap in special schools or in special classes.

The standard rate ofper capita grants payable in respect of recognised students in voluntary secondary schools in the free education scheme are set out in table B. Schools in the vocational and community and comprehensive sector are not funded on a per capita basis but on a budget basis. Unlike primary schools, there is no requirement for local contributions at second level.

In addition to the standardper capita grant at second level, additional per capita grants are payable in respect of schools participating in transition year and leaving certificate applied programmes, schools which are designated as disadvantaged, and schools with special class groups (pupils with handicap).

Details of all special rates at both primary and post-primary level will be forwarded to the Deputy shortly.
