Vol. 468 No. 1

Written Answers. - Galway School Extension.

Noel Treacy

Ceist:

158 Mr. N. Treacy asked the Minister for Education the reason an extension to a school (details supplied) in County Galway has not been proceeded with; the reason for the delay in sanctioning this extension; the date on which sanction will be given and works will commence; the facilities to be provided; the amount of money to be spent on this project; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [14696/96]

I am aware of the accommodation requirements of the school in question.

In this regard officials of my Department's building unit are currently examining the short-term and long-term requirements of this school.

In the order to address the immediate accommodation needs of the school, I have approved, in principle, the provision of four general classrooms and toilets in prefabricated accommodation. This project is proceeding.
In order to ascertain the school's long-term requirements, County Galway Vocational Education Committee have been requested to complete an educational worksheet. This submission is currently awaited by my Department's building unit.
