Vol. 468 No. 1

Written Answers. - Indemnity for Statutory Bodies.

Liz O'Donnell

Ceist:

178 Ms O'Donnell asked the Minister for Justice the provisions, if any, she has made to provide indemnity in respect of proceedings which might issue against a statutory board, a statutory committee or other bodies established by the State arising out of statements made or reports published by such a committee or board or a member of a committee or board; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [14721/96]

The Deputy will appreciate that my responsibility in this matter extends only to the various State bodies under my Department's aegis.

On the assumption that the Deputy is referring to statutory provisions apart from section 17 of the Charities Act, 1961 in relation to the Commissioners for Charitable Donations and Bequests, there are no specific provision in place for indemnity in respect of proceedings which might issue against a statutory board, committee or body under the aegis of my Department.
