Vol. 468 No. 1

Written Answers. - Government Jet Usage.

Eoin Ryan

Ceist:

226 Mr. E. Ryan asked the Minister for Defence the guidelines applying in respect of persons who may travel in the Government jet; and if any of these guidelines have been breached over the past 18 months. [14659/96]

The guidelines for the use of the ministerial air transport service have been set down by successive Governments over the years and are regarded as satisfactory. The following persons may use the ministerial air transport service: the President, members of the Government, Ministers of State and authorised officials of the public service.

In addition husbands and wives may use the service if they are accompanying their spouses in a representative capacity on official business. A set of procedures for the use of the service was drawn up when the service first commenced in 1979 and approved by the Department of the Taoiseach. These procedures have been revised over the years but remain largely as originally approved. I am not aware of any breach of the guidelines.
