Vol. 468 No. 1

Written Answers. - Reply to Parliamentary Question.

Mary Coughlan

Ceist:

227 Miss Coughlan asked the Minister for Defence if he will explain the term meanwhile in relation to his reply to Parliamentary Question No. 315 of 21 May 1996 in view of the fact that it is contradictory to other aspects of the parliamentary reply. [14615/96]

The reply referred to was a statement of the current position as regards Phase I of the Defence Forces Review Implementation Plan as it effects civilian employees with the Defence Forces including all civilians employed in the Western Command area.

A detailed study of present deployment and utilisation of existing civilian personnel will be carried out over the next three years, along with a number of other linked studies on related topics. I cannot prejudge the findings or recommendations of these examinations and reviews. In any event, as previously indicated, any recommendations for change in relation to existing civilian employees will be fully discussed with the parties involved.

There are no plans or proposals for any civilian employee redundancies at the present time.
