Vol. 469 No. 1

Written Answers. - Drogheda (Louth) Hospital Funding.

Mary Wallace

Ceist:

274 Miss M. Wallace asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to the fact that a CT scan machine has been installed in Drogheda, County Louth, but that funding has not been made available to staff the machine and seriously ill persons are obliged to undertake a journey to Dublin to avail of a scan; and if he will undertake to provide the necessary funding to deal with this situation. [16918/96]

Limerick East): Between 1994 and 1996, my Department has made substantial funding available to Our Lady of Lourdes, Drogheda in respect of commissioning and staffing costs associated with the development of a CT scanning service for the Louth-Meath region. This year, the hospital submitted a list of priority posts which included a consultant radiologist for its CT scanning service. This post has now been approved by my Department and it is the responsibility of the hospital to make an application for the above post to Comhairle na nOspidéal, the statutory body charged with responsibility for the regulation of consultant appointments. In the interim, I understand that the hospital has been actively pursuing the recruitment of a temporary consultant radiologist in order to provide this service.
