Vol. 469 No. 1

Written Answers. - Foreign Travel.

Ivor Callely

Ceist:

432 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Education the projected number of visits which she will undertake between now and the end of December 1996, in the context of Ireland's Presidency of the EU, to EU member destinations, other European destinations, North American destinations, African destinations and other destinations; the total cost of such travel; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [16641/96]

The only visits I plan to undertake, at this stage, between now and the end of December 1996, in the context of Ireland's Presidency of the European Union will be to Brussels. The first of these, in fact, took place on 23-24 September when I went to address the European Parliament Committee on Culture, Youth, Education and the Media. In the course of this visit, I also held meetings with representatives of the European Parents Association and the European Trade Union Committee on Education.

A second visit will be on 20-21 November 1996, when I will chair the Education Council in the course of which there will be a structured dialogue with the countries of Central and Eastern Europe and the Baltic States.

The total cost of the travel, including accompanying officials, is estimated to be £6,700.
