Vol. 469 No. 1

Written Answers. - County Kildare Schools.

Seán Power

Ceist:

443 Mr. Power asked the Minister for Education the number of schools in County Kildare which have lost a teacher. [16815/96]

It is assumed that the Deputy is referring to primary schools in County Kildare in which posts were suppressed at the end of the 1995-96 school year due to declining enrolments. The number of schools in County Kildare thus affected was six, involving a total of seven posts.

Seán Power

Ceist:

444 Mr. Power asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the frustration being felt by parents, teachers and pupils due to the delay in the construction of the new school for Allen national school, County Kildare; and when building will commence. [16816/96]

I am aware of the urgency of the accommodation needs at Allen national school and of the concerns expressed by parents and teachers.

The current position on the project is that my Department is examining applications from contractors who have expressed an interest in being included in the tender list for the project. When this is completed, a decision will then be made on the tender process in light of funds available. My Department will keep in touch with the school authorities in the matter.

At this stage, it is not possible to say when construction will commence on the project.
