Vol. 469 No. 1

Written Answers. - County Galway Schools.

Noel Treacy

Ceist:

447 Mr. N. Treacy asked the Minister for Education the reason problems at a school (details supplied) in County Galway were not resolved during the summer holiday period; if her attention has been drawn to the gravity of the situation; if she will direct her Department to carry out the necessary works on or before 1 October 1996, to ensure that the health board will not have the school closed down; the date on which works will commence; the nature of the works to be executed; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [16872/96]

My Department's technical advisers have been endeavouring to resolve technical difficulties in relation to connecting a new water supply at the school referred to by the Deputy.

I have been advised by Office of Public Works that the difficulties have been resolved and costings for the works are now being sought. A report is expected in my Department in the next two weeks and the school authorities will be contacted without delay.

It is not possible at this time to state when works will commence, their nature or cost, but every effort is being made to restore a satisfactory supply as soon as possible.
