Vol. 469 No. 1

Written Answers. - EU Presidency.

Ivor Callely

Ceist:

507 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Justice if she will give details of the programme of meetings and dinner functions she intends to host in Ireland for the EU Council of Ministers in the context of Ireland's Presidency of the EU; the venues for such functions; the numbers attending; the basis on which the venue was chosen; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [16684/96]

I intend to host one Justice and Home Affairs Council meeting and one associated dinner function in Ireland for the EU Council of Ministers in the context of Ireland's Presidency of the EU. The Council meeting will take place in Dublin Castle conference centre.

Malahide Castle will be the venue for the dinner and the number attending will be approximately 60. The venue was chosen because of its suitability for such a function where privacy and security can be provided. It should be noted that this venue was also used during the 1990 Irish Presidency.

In accordance with normal practice, dinner will also be provided, at another venue, for officials who will be attending the Council meeting. The number involved is approx 150 of whom about 120 will be visiting officials.
