Vol. 469 No. 1

Written Answers. - Job Start Programme.

Michael McDowell

Ceist:

584 Mr. M. McDowell asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the number of employees who have been recruited to the scheme announced in the 1996 budget for the payment of a recruitment subsidy of £80 per week as of 15 September 1996; the amount that has been paid on foot of this scheme; the number of persons it is envisaged will be recruited under the scheme between now and 31 December 1996; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16523/96]

The number of employees recruited under the Jobstart Programme as of 15 September 1996 was 130. As the grant — £80 per week for 52 weeks — is paid in three instalments, the first at week 17, the second at week 34 and the final payment at week 52, and as the scheme was only launched on 29 May last, the first payments are not due until the week commencing 29 September 1996. The projected take up rate for the programme is set at between 1,200 and 1,500 before the end of the year.
