596 Mr. M. Ahern asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment whether a decision has been reached in respect of the eligibility of the 194 workers made redundant in 1994 and 1995 at Irish Steel Limited in Cork; if so, when payment will be made to eligible persons; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Officials from my Department are in regular contact with the European Commission and it is expected that a final decision on the issue will be made by the Commission within 4 to 6 weeks. At that stage, the question of the timing of payments for eligible persons will also have been clarified by the Commission.
