Vol. 469 No. 1

Written Answers. - Foreign Travel.

Ivor Callely

Ceist:

636 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the projected number of visits which he will undertake between now and the end of December 1996, in the context of Ireland's Presidency of the EU, to EU member destinations, other European destinations, North American destinations, African destinations and other destinations; the total cost of such travel; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16648/96]

The remaining three scheduled meetings of the Council of Agriculture Ministers during the Irish Presidency which I shall be chairing, will take place in Luxembourg (October) and Brussels (November and December). I also plan to attend, as President of the Agriculture Council, the World Food Summit in Rome in November. Of course, my duties as President of the Council may require me to undertake other visits, as yet unplanned, particularly to other member states' capitals. The cost of each visit will depend on factors which are unknown at this stage, such as the duration and the number of officials attending.
