Vol. 469 No. 5

Written Answers. - Planning Application Delay.

Seán Power

Ceist:

158 Mr. Power asked the Minister for Education the reason for the delay in applying for planning permission for the provision of prefabricated classrooms at Naas Convent primary school, County Kildare; and when these prefabs will be provided. [17819/96]

My Department approved grant-aid towards the cost of a double pre-fabricated classroom unit in June 1996.

The Office of Public Works was requested to assist the school in having the accommodation provided. Tenders were subsequently invited for the project and the contract was placed in August 1996. The successful contractor applied for planning permission and fire certificate for the scheme in early September 1996.

The pre-fabricated unit will be provided as soon as possible after the planning permission and fire certificate are granted.

There has been no unnecessary delay in applying for planning permission for this scheme.
