218 Mr. Lawlor asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications if he will provide the funding required to upgrade the section of rail track between Clonsilla, Dublin 15 and Maynooth, County Kildare, from a single track to a double track in view of the severe difficulties caused to the commuter service on this part of the Connolly-Maynooth line (details supplied). CIE has prepared detailed proposals for the development of the Maynooth rail corridor in accordance with the recommendations of the Dublin Transportation Initiative, including the doubling of the track between Clonsilla and Maynooth.

CIE's proposals are being considered by the European Commission which recently appointed consultants to undertake an evaluation of the proposals.
