Michael Ring

Ceist:

100 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health the number of permanent positions which were filled in the Sacred Heart Home in Castlebar, County Mayo, in each of the years from 1994 to 1996; the number of applicants who were made permanent from the temporary staff; the number of applicants who are on panels; and if there is a policy within the health board not to recruit from temporary staff. [17831/96]

Limerick East): The Western Health Board is responsible for the management of services and deployment of staff at the Sacred Heart Home, Castlebar, County Mayo. Current personnel policy for the health services provides that health agencies which are managing resources within their allocations may fill non-consultant posts without recourse to the Department.

The number of permanent appointments made by the board in the Sacred Heart Home, Castlebar, County Mayo, in the years specified is as follows:

1994

2

1995

10

1996*

1

*1-1-96 to 30-9-96.
The number of temporary staff who obtained permanent appointments is not readily available.
The board does not discriminate against temporary staff when filling permanent vacancies. Temporary staff may apply for permanent positions advertised, merit being the only criterion used in relation to filling all vacancies.
