Vol. 469 No. 7

Written Answers. - Carndonagh (Donegal) School Staffing.

Peadar Clohessy

Ceist:

49 Mr. Clohessy asked the Minister for Education the reason staff in Carndonagh Community School, Donegal, has been reduced by eight teachers in the past two years, in spite of the fact that student numbers have only dropped by 35; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [18091/96]

The staffing allocation for a second level school for a particular school year is made up of the allocation warranted by the enrolment on 30 September of the previous year having regard to the current pupil teacher ratio together with the number of ex-quota-concessionary posts approved for the school.

For the school year 1994-95 the allocation based on enrolments of 1,707 was 90.9 Wholetime Teacher Equivalents (WTEs). In addition the school was entitled to six ex-quota posts giving a total allocation of 96.9 WTEs.

For the school year 1995-96 the allocation based on enrolments of 1,620 was 85.7 WTEs. In addition the school was entitled to nine ex-quota posts giving a total allocation of 94.7 WTEs.
For the school year 1996-97 the allocation based on enrolments of 1,553 is 82.2 WTEs. In addition the school is entitled to nine ex-quota posts giving a total allocation of 91.2 WTEs.
