Vol. 469 No. 7

Written Answers. - Psychological Assessment.

Tony Gregory

Ceist:

130 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Education the reason a place has not been provided for a child in view of her reply to Parliamentary Question 107 on 29 May 1996; and when the educational needs of this child will be provided for. [18175/96]

The case to which the Deputy refers is being actively pursued by my Department and I am hopeful of an early resolution. A member of my Department's psychological service participated in a case conference relating to this child at the end of may 1996. This case conference, which was organised by the Eastern Health Board social work department, concluded that application should be made to have the child enrolled in a special school which would be equipped to meet the child's special needs. I am advised that the issue of this enrolment is being actively pursued at present. Work is taking place on the development of a suitable school programme for the child and I am hopeful that the enrolment can proceed just as soon as the arrangements for the programme are finalised.
