Vol. 470 No. 1

Written Answers. - Drugs for HIV Patients.

Trevor Sargent

Ceist:

160 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Health the type of drugs which are being prescribed for persons said to be infected with HIV virus or who are diagnosed as anti-bodies positive; and if the AZT drug or similar type of drugs like ddI and ddC is still being used. [18352/96]

Limerick East): Treatment for people who are infected with HIV or who are diagnosed as anti-bodies positive is a matter for the person's own medical practitioner.

Records of drug usage show that AZT is still widely used but that ddI and ddC are seldom used. Other drugs being prescribed include Zerit, Epivir, Saquinavir, Retonavir and Indinavir.
