62 Miss Harney asked the Minister for Justice the number of proposals which have been received from the private sector for the construction of a remand prison at Wheatfield; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [18446/96]
Following a newspaper advertisement, 19 proposals have been received from the private sector for the provision of the remand prison at Wheatfield to accommodate approximately 400 prisoners. Those proposals are being examined and evaluated and tenders for the construction of the prison will be invited in early 1997.
