Matt Brennan

Ceist:

167 Mr. M. Brennan asked the Minister for Education when urgent electrical, heating and lighting work will be carried out at Our Lady of Mercy Primary School (details supplied), County Sligo, in view of the fact that the existing antiquated electrical fittings create a serious fire hazard. [19792/96]

Ceist:

168 Mr. M. Brennan asked the Minister for Education the current status of the preparatory work on the link-building already sanctioned for Our Lady of Mercy Primary School (details supplied), County Sligo; when this work will be progressed; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [19793/96]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 159, 167 and 168 together.

My Department has agreed to grant-aid the provision of a link-block extension at the school referred to by the Deputy.

The position on the project is that the school authorities have applied to Sligo County Council for a fire certificate which is currently awaited. On receipt of this my Department's architect will commence the preparation of working drawings and tender-contract documents. When this is completed, a decision will then be made on the tender process in the light of funds available. My Department will keep in touch with the school authorities in the matter.

With regard to the electrical, heating and lighting works required at the school the position is that due to financial constraints the project cannot be grant-aided at present. The project will be considered in the light of future allocations of capital funding.
