Vol. 470 No. 7

Written Answers. - Superannuation Scheme.

Joe Costello

Ceist:

180 Mr. Costello asked the Minister for Education the number of members of the secondary teachers' superannuation scheme, other than those with recognition for previous national school service, who will have completed 35 years pensionable service on 31 July 1996, who will not be more than 55 years old on that date; the number of members of the secondary teachers' superannuation scheme, other than those with recognition for previous national school service, who will have completed 33 years pensionable service on 31 July 1996, who will not be more than 53 years old on that date; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [19939/96]

I regret that it is not possible to provide the Deputy with precise information in relation to pensionable service. The pensionable service of individual teachers may vary depending on the capacity in which the teachers served and the type of school in which the service was given. The service record of an individual member of the secondary teachers' superannuation scheme is examined thoroughly by the relevant section of my Department at the date of his-her application for a pension. It is only subsequent to this review that the precise pension entitlement of the teachers is established.

Joe Costello

Ceist:

181 Mr. Costello asked the Minister for Education the average age of teachers joining the secondary teachers' superannuation scheme in each of the years 1955, 1965, 1975, 1985 and 1995. [19940/96]

The information requested by the Deputy is not readily available in my Department. I regret that I could not justify allocating the considerable resources necessary to obtain this information.
