Vol. 470 No. 7

Written Answers. - Bus Alterations.

Ben Briscoe

Ceist:

185 Mr. Briscoe asked the Minister for Education if she will give details of the alterations and modifications made to the buses mentioned in her written reply to Parliamentary Question No. 165 from Deputy Briscoe on Tuesday, 22 October 1996; and the total cost of such alterations and modifications. [20024/96]

The vehicles to which the Deputy refers, when purchased, were standard city buses with two doors, seating and standing areas, and had no heating or ventilation systems. These buses were converted from two door to one door vehicles, were re-seated and had suitable heating systems installed. All the vehicles are fully compliant with construction, equipment and use of vehicles regulations, and were required to pass Department of the Environment tests prior to use. The cost of these alterations and modifications was met directly by Bus Éireann's own resources.
