Vol. 470 No. 7

Written Answers. - Louth Job Statistics.

Dermot Ahern

Ceist:

236 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the number of jobs created in County Louth in each of the years from 1993 to date in 1996; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19857/96]

I assume the Deputy's question relates to job creation performance within the remit of my Department.

Following is the position in so far as Forbairt and IDA Ireland are concerned for the years 1993, 1994 and 1995. Details for 1996 are not yet available; the annual employment survey for the year is currently under way and the industrial development agencies have advised me that data for 1996 should be available in the near future.

The Deputy will note from the above table the positive net change in employment in Forbairt-IDA Ireland assisted companies in County Louth in each of the years 1993-95. Current indications suggest that the figures for 1996 will also show a net increase. In addition, Heinz has just commenced recruiting for the recently approved Custom Foods Weight Watchers facility in Dundalk.
Also, Louth County Enterprise Board, which was established in late 1993, has been very active in the promotion of small and micro-enterprise projects in the county. During 1993-94, 21 full-time jobs were created in enterprises supported by the board. The figure for 1995 was 70 full-time jobs. In addition, 37 part-time jobs were created in 1995 in CEB-supported enterprises. To date in 1996, 59 full-time jobs have been created in enterprises supported by the board.
