Vol. 470 No. 7

Written Answers. - Consultancy Costs.

Ceist:

275 Mr. Ryan asked the Minister for the Marine if he will provide details of expenditure on consultancy in his Department in 1995 or the most recent year for which figures are available; and if he will provide an analysis of this expenditure as a proportion of staffing and administration costs. [19725/96]

Ceist:

276 Mr. Ryan asked the Minister for the Marine if he will give details of the overall expenditure on consultancy by his Department in each of the years 1985, 1990 and 1995, or the most recent year for which completed figures are available; and if he will provide an analysis of these figures as a proportion of overall staffing and administration costs for each of these years. [19726/96]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 275 and 276 together.

As the Department of the Marine was established in 1987, the following table gives the information sought by the Deputy in respect of the years 1990 and 1995:

Year

(A) Consultancy Costs

(B) Staffing and Administrative Costs

(C) (A) as a % of (B)

Note: (The 1995 figure for consultancy costs is the cost in that year of all consultants engaged by my Department, including consultations whose costs were met by the Dún Laoghaire Harbour (Finance) Board. The 1990 figure is the cost in that year of engineering consultancies and those consultancies whose costs were met from subhead A7 of the Marine Vote. While the cost of some other consultancies would have been met from other subheads of the Vote, this figure reflects the bulk of the consultancy costs incurred in that year.)
