Ceist:

89 Mr. N. Treacy asked the Minister for Health if he will sanction a project (details supplied) in County Galway; the reason for the delay in sanctioning this project; if he will give details of the project to be sanctioned; the date on which sanction will be given; the amount of money to be allocated in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19800/96]

Limerick East): I propose to take Questions Nos. 87 and 89 together.

As the Deputy will be aware the provision of long-stay care for the elderly in Loughrea and Ballinasloe is a matter for the Western Health Board. The board has carried out a review of the long stay requirements for the elderly in the region. Amongst other findings, the board has identified the need to replace the existing accommodation at St. Brendan's Home, Loughrea with new community nursing units in Loughrea and Ballinasloe. I have yet to receive detailed costings on the above projects from the board. Any application for funding for these projects will be considered in the light of the board's internal priorities and the capital funding available.
