Vol. 470 No. 7

Written Answers. - Galway Centre for Alzheimer's Sufferers.

Robert Molloy

Ceist:

98 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for Health whether he will provide financial assistance to the Alzheimer's Society of Ireland to assist the society in establishing a day care centre in Galway; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19844/96]

Limerick East): As the Deputy will be aware, the provision of day care centres in County Galway is, in the first instance, a matter for the Western Health Board.

The board has advised me that discussions are currently taking place with the Galway Branch of the Alzheimer's Society of Ireland on the provision of a day service for Alzheimer's sufferers in Galway city. The proposal is that the day service will be run and funded by the Galway branch of the Alzheimer's Society. The board has informed me that, to date, the Alzheimer's Society of Ireland has not applied to them for funding for this project. However, the board is considering a request to make suitable accommodation for the centre available to the society.
