107 Miss M. Wallace asked the Minister for Equality and Law Reform the extent of child abduction from this jurisdiction to other countries over the past two years; the countries to which these children were abducted; the countries with which there are legal agreements in place to recover abductees; the current position regarding the recovery of children back to Ireland; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Ireland's membership of two international conventions enables it to have reciprocal arrangements with 41 states for the return of children who are abudcted by a parent from, or into, the State. I have set out in tabular form the convention states in question as well as details in relation to abductions from the State in 1994 and 1995. The details given are in relation to cases dealt with by the Central Authority for Child Abduction which operates in my Department for the purposes of both conventions. The total numbers of cases of child abductions from the State was 47 in 1994 and 54 in 1995 and of these 101 cases five are still awaiting resolution.
