Vol. 471 No. 1

Written Answers. - Women's Aid Budget Submission.

Liam Fitzgerald

Ceist:

115 Mr. L. Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Finance whether he has received a pre-budget submission on behalf of Women's Aid; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the overall budget to run its service for 1995 was £392,802, and that only £355,000 was provided by way of grant aid from the State; if he is currently considering its case for an increase in aid, particularly in view of the fact that over 10,000 women contacted the organisation for help in 1995; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20426/96]

In line with the new arrangement that I introduced in my Budget Statement this year to allow greater consideration on pre-budget submissions, I understand that Women's Aid have made a pre-budget submission to the Finance and General Affairs Committee of the Oireachtas which is the forum for dealing with such submissions. I have also received a copy of the submission. The question of the level of grant-aid for the group is in the first instance a matter for the Minister for Health who will no doubt take into account any comment from the Finance and General Affairs Committee.
