Vol. 471 No. 7

Written Answers. - Vehicle Taxation Revenue.

John O'Leary

Ceist:

211 Mr. O'Leary asked the Minister for the Environment the total amount of money collected in counties Clare, Cork, Galway, Mayo, Kerry and Donegal and forwarded to the State in 1995 in respect of motor and vehicle taxation; and the total sum of money paid by his Department to each of these counties in 1995 in respect of road grants, excluding EU funding. [21681/96]

Details of the amount of motor tax, that is, vehicle excise duties, collected by each licensing authority for 1995 are contained in the reply to Question No. 308 of 25 July 1996.

Details of road grants paid to local authorities are contained in the booklet "State Grant Payments to Local Authorities for National, Non-National and Non-Public Accommodation Roads and own resources expenditure by Local Authorities on National and Non-National Roads in the period 1986-95", which is available in the Oireachtas Library.

EU assisted road projects are funded initially by the State road grants. The EU assistance is remitted to the Exchequer in partial recoupment of the State road grants.
