Vol. 471 No. 7

Written Answers. - Housing Aid for Elderly.

Cecilia Keaveney

Ceist:

214 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for the Environment whether funding for housing aid for the elderly is currently up to date with demand in the North-Western Health Board region in view of the fact that £380,000 was given to the board in 1996 and it had 207 applications costing £291,000 in June 1996; whether there are currently any outstanding projects further to Parliamentary Questions Nos. 137 and 138 of 12 November 1996; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21713/96]

The allocation of funding to individual health boards has to take account of the overall level of funding available for the scheme — £4 million this year, as against £3 million in 1995. It is a matter for each health board to determine, within the funds available, the priority of individual cases on hands and to consider applications outstanding at end-1996 for assistance in 1997.

Details, additional to those given in the reply to Questions Nos. 137 and 138 of 12 November, on the number of applications on hands by the North-Western Health Board are not available in my Department; the next return by the board will cover the period to 31 December 1996.
